Here is your scalp routine

If you don’t have a scalp care routine, you’re missing a fundamental step in your hair care regimen. Because your hair grows from your scalp. So, if your scalp is optimal, the quality and density of the hair you grow will be optimal too. Now you might be thinking, I don’t want to add yet another beauty routine into my schedule, but I promise you, you will reap the rewards. And not only that, but it’s also relatively easy. In this article we’re going to talk about the importance of your scalp care routine, how to identify an unhappy scalp, and the three critical steps in your scalp care routine. Let’s dive in!

Why is a scalp care routine important?

A scalp care routine is not just about the health of the scalp itself but extends to the well-being of your hair as a whole. It's a holistic approach to hair care that addresses both the root and the strands, ensuring that your hairremain healthy. And it eventually makes your hair care routine a lot easier.

How do you know if your scalp is unhappy?

For many reasons namely

  • Itchiness
  • Dryness
  • Hair loss
  • Hair thinning
  • An increase in oiliness
  • Flakey scalp
  • Pain

None of these symptoms are “normal” scalp behavior. If you are experiencing any of these issues, it is time to adopt a scalp care routine. And even for those who don’t have any of these issues, a scalp care routine is a brilliant preventative measure in your hair care routine.

What are the three critical steps in adopting a scalp care routine

Step 1: Scalp Oiling with a high quality scalp oil

I cannot stress this enough. Put down your kitchen concoctions and go for a formulated product. I was an avid DIY-er and after 3+ years of DIY scalp oils, I used the Scalp Elixir during our product testing phase and the benefits I saw within one month, I could never achieve in all the years with my DIY-ing. When it comes to scalp oiling, you want to use a product that combines hardworking carrier oils with terpenes. Our Scalp Elixir contains two essential oils (thyme and rosemary) which are abundant in terpenes with anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antioxidant and anti-fungal properties. Terpenes are also natural penetration enhancers, so they can penetrate your scalp and deliver the benefits of all the oils directly where needed. Which means they are getting to the source.

We also added 9 other carrier oils which are high in fatty acids, conditioning compounds and antioxidant properties. These 11 oils combined benefit the surface of your scalp, and penetrates your scalp to deliver these incredible compounds to your hair follicle too.

It is recommended that you do a scalp oiling treatment at least once a week if you are looking to maintain the health of your scalp or 2-3 times a week if your scalp has any issues.

Step 2: Massage your scalp to encourage blood flow

This goes hand-in-hand with scalp oiling. Once you oil your scalp you have to give yourself a 4-5 minute scalp massage. The act of massaging your scalp alone can increase blood circulation. An increase in blood circulation has been linked to hair growth and reduction of hair thinning. Massaging your scalp after an application of a topical scalp oil yields incredible benefits.

Even on your non-scalp oiling days, it’s beneficial to give your scalp a 4-5 minute massage daily.

Step 3: Keep your scalp clean

Your scalp is skin. We cleanse our body every day, we cleanse our face every day. Your scalp is skin too and it requires to be cleansed. Aside from the sebum your scalp produces there are other external factors such as pollution, dust, and styling products. These all settle on your scalp mixed with your sebum to create a very unfavorable environment.

When your scalp isn’t happy, you’ll experience itchiness, dryness, scalp flaking which will result in weaker hair, can exacerbate hair loss and stunt your hair growth progress. This is why we recommend that you wash your hair at least once a week.

We strongly recommend adding a Shampoo Brush (LINK) to your wash routine as well. Our Shampoo brush (LINK) has 25 soft silicone bristles that gently, but thoroughly, clean your scalp.
