Five mistakes you might be making on your wash day

Your wash day sets the tone for your hair. The cleaning, the moisturizing and using the right techniques can really elevate how your hair performs post-wash. So here are the five most common errors that we see people make on their wash day:

1. Waiting too long before washing your hair

Your scalp is an ecosystem. And when you wait too long before washing it, you are allowing dirt, oil product buildup to sit on your scalp and comprise the health of your scalp. Find a wash day routine that works for you so that you are not under-washing your hair, and not over washing it. We recommend that you should wash your hair at least once a week.

2. Not incorporating a pre-wash treatment

Pre-wash treatments are so good for you. It preps your scalp and hair with the efficient nutrients and properties needed to “feed” your scalp and hair prior to your wash day. Doing this at least once a week is going to entirely change how your scalp behaves especially if you are facing scalp issues

3. Not cleaning your scalp sufficiently

Your scalp needs that shampoo on your wash day. The shampoo needs to be gently massaged onto your scalp so that it is effectively lifting all that dirt, oils and product buildup off your scalp. The only way to do this is to take your time, ensure your whole scalp is equally cleaned and we highly recommend incorporating our Shampoo Brush which not only helps to clean the scalp, but exfoliate and massage it

4. Not rinsing out your conditioner fully

A wash-off conditioner and a leave-in conditioner are formulated differently. Wash off conditioners that you use after shampooing are heavier /thicker formulations and they lack styling properties. If you are not rinsing your conditioner out fully, you might notice that your hair feels heavier, looks dull or gets oily quickly. The function of a conditioner post-shampoo is to help seal your cuticles after shampooing and it does this function very efficiently within a few minutes.

Bonus tip: Do not apply your conditioner to your scalp. Conditioner is meant for your hair only

5. Being too rough

This relates to you how detangle your hair while it is wet, how you wash your hair and how you dry your hair. Wet hair is fragile because water expands your hair. So, while it is wet, you want to gently detangle and gently wash. Coming out of the shower it is best to use a microfiber towel or a t-shirt to dry your hair as regular towels are too rough for hair.

And there you have it. Five of the most common errors we see when washing your hair. Just making these small changes will really make a difference to how your hair feels and looks post-wash day.
