A conversation with a client

Hair education is a high priority at Pressed. Aside from the content that we develop, we also consult with clients who are having specific hair issues to find a solution for them. We recently had an interesting conversation with a client that I think could benefit a lot of people. Let’s get into it.

“My hair is falling out”

This was the main issue. She was experiencing more hair fall than normal, and she felt that her hair density was reducing. So, the hair was falling faster than it was being replaced making her scalp more visible. Now interestingly, when I looked at her scalp, it looked fine to me, but that is an entirely unfair assessment.

The person losing the hair and experiencing the change is the person that knows best. And because it wasn’t obvious to me by looking at her scalp, doesn’t mean there is no issue. In fact, her taking action before it became more of an issue is one of the best things you can do.

So, we went through her lifestyle and hair habits

  1. She has an active lifestyle where she works out a lot. She washes her hair regularly, but she doesn’t necessarily wash it after a sweaty workout
  2. She’s somewhat inconsistent with her scalp care
  3. She’s been taking a multivitamin ever since her hair fall was noticeably increasing
  4. Her hair is feeling drier at the ends
  5. She’s generally not feeling great about the hair fall and it’s stressing her out

What did we propose?

Here is how we broke down each issue and proposed our solutions

She has an active lifestyle where she works out a lot. She washes her hair regularly, but she doesn’t necessarily wash it after a sweaty workout

While her wash schedule was regular, the issue was that she wasn’t washing her hair after a sweaty workout. This can be a problem over time. Sweat contributes to buildup on your scalp and it also has a high salt content which can be drying to your scalp.

We recommended that she ideally wash her hair after a sweaty workout, or not leave too much time between her wash days

She’s somewhat inconsistent with her scalp care

Especially since she is going through an issue of hair fall, it’s important to have optimal scalp care. The three most important things for your scalp are scalp massages (4 minutes a day), keeping your scalp clean and doing a pre-wash scalp treatment with an oil like our Scalp Elixir.

She’s been taking a multivitamin ever since her hair fall was noticeably increasing

Another really important point. I often see people turning to multivitamins when they notice an unfavorable change. The issue with this solution is that it doesn’t tell you the root of the problem. If you suspect that you have a vitamin deficiency, its best that you get bloodwork done. That way you can see whether you have any deficiencies. Your doctor will then advice you on how to address it whether it’s with supplements or changes to your diet.

Oh also, because she was on supplements, we recommended that she stop the supplements first. Give it some time, and then do her bloodwork. This ensures that the supplements do not interfere with the results.

Her hair is feeling drier at the ends

She has fine hair, so her hair is more prone to breakage and dryness. Fine hair tends to be less forgiving when it comes to heat styling because it has a smaller diameter. It is especially important to take care of your ends, as they are the oldest part of your hair and more prone to damage.

A nightly routine of applying a tiny bit of oil, like our Nourishing Hair Oil, to the ends is a great practice and sleeping on a satin pillowcase is a must as it is much gentler on your hair.

She’s generally not feeling great about the hair fall and it’s stressing her out

Personally speaking, I understand this feeling wholeheartedly. It is a very jarring experience, and you just want a solution right NOW, and for it to work NOW.

It’s also a double-edged sword because stress does negatively impact your hair follicles. What I would encourage is that if you are concerned about hairloss, or any hair issue for that matter. Speak to someone about it because even being advised on solutions can help ease your nerves.

And lastly

I’m happy to report that after implementing these changes for the past few weeks, she has already seen a reduction in hair fall. Which just shows that a healthy hair routine really does matter.
