The top five most valuable lessons I learned in my hair journey.

I’ve been on a healthy hair journey for a few years, and along the way I have learned new habits, fine-tuned existing habits and built a routine.

It’s an everchanging journey because well, change is the only constant. But I wanted to share some key things I have learned to date. I’m hoping that some or most of this can be relatable so that you can identify what to add into your routine to help you reach your hair goals. So, let’s get into it!

1. Stick to a wash schedule to make your hair care easier.

Washing your hair can feel like it’s a huge reset, especially if you are delaying the time between your wash days. When I stuck to a more regular wash routine, not only did I notice my hair growing healthier, but my wash days were short, efficient and painless.

2. Use formulated products.

This was a big one for me. I was a huge DIY-er. From my scalp oil to hair masks made in the kitchen, it was all about DIY for me. I thought I couldn’t find a product that worked for me, and I thought that DIY products were “cleaner”. The reality is that a good, formulated product will do wonders for your scalp and hair and will give you results a lot quicker.

3. Hair care is not just about products.

Good hair, good skin. It starts from within. Review your diet, get your workouts in, get good sleep. These things make a huge difference. They create more of an impact that any product ever will.

4. Don’t try to do too much.

Building habits is very hard, and if you approach it with great ambition, you will likely not be able to stick to the habit. What I mean by this is, change one small thing at a time and optimize over time. Don’t ty to incorporate 10 changes in your life all at once, it will be too shocking, and it will feel like too much work to maintain.

5. Treat your hair gently.

Two things to be aware of here. One, once your hair leaves your scalp, it has no way of repairing itself. And two, your hair grows approximately 6 inches every year. So, the ends of shoulder length hair can be anywhere from 3 to 5 years old. Think about what you’ve done with your hair in the past 5 years. You need to be gentle with your hair from how you handle your hair to how you style it. Your ends are the oldest part of your hair and that’s why they are more prone to damage, split ends, dry ends.

And there you have it

The five most valuable lessons I’ve learned in my healthy hair journey. Of everything I’ve read, researched and experimented with, these five learnings have been the most important and they apply to ANY hair type. I hope it was helpful for you :)
